Things to Remember Before Traveling to the USA
1.Apply for Your Visa in Advance : U.S. visa slots often fill up quickly. It’s best to start your visa process at least 2–3 months before your travel date.
2.Check Your Passport Validity : Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your date of return. If you’ve renewed it recently, carry your old passport too.
3. Keep All Travel Documents Ready : Keep both printed and digital copies of your passport, visa, air tickets, hotel confirmation, and insurance policy. You’ll need them at the airport and during immigration checks
4. Don’t Skip Travel Insurance : Medical care in the U.S. is expensive. Always take comprehensive travel insurance covering health, baggage loss, and trip delays.
5. Currency & Cards : Carry a mix of USD cash (for tips and small purchases) and an international forex/travel card for larger expenses. Inform your bank before using your Indian debit or credit card abroad.
6.Customs & Security Rules: Avoid carrying items like fresh food, pickles, or seeds. Declare any cash above USD 10,000 at customs. Security checks are strict, so pack smartly and avoid sharp or restricted items in hand baggage.
7.Stay Connected: You can buy a local U.S. SIM card or opt for an international roaming pack from India. Having an active mobile number helps during transfers and emergencies.
8.Weather & Clothing: The U.S. weather changes by region. Check your destinations before packing. If you’re visiting during winter, carry thermal wear and jackets — the cold can be very different from Kerala’s climate.
9.Tipping & Etiquette: Tipping is part of American culture — about 15–20% at restaurants and USD 1–2 for hotel staff is standard. Always be polite and follow local customs.
